How to Connect with Anyone Using the Ben Franklin Trick

Effective communication is the cornerstone of any meaningful relationship.

And the stronger your ability to build trust, the deeper the connection you’ll form with others.

We all know that rapport can be built in various ways — through shared experiences, common interests, and even humor. But what do you do when you’re struggling to make a connection with someone?

This week, I want to share a simple yet powerful trick that will help you form connections fast. It’s called the Benjamin Franklin effect.

The Ben Franklin effect is a cognitive bias where people tend to like someone more after doing them a favor, especially if they didn’t have strong feelings toward them before.

Here’s how it works: 👇

  1. Ask someone you want to connect with to do you a small favor. 🗣

  2. They agree and help you out. 🙏🏼

  3. Their brain then tries to justify why they did the favor. 🧠

  4. It concludes that if they helped you, they must like you. 🤗

It’s a sneaky but effective way to build rapport and turn neutral or even negative feelings into a positive connection.

Have you ever used this trick? How do you build rapport quickly? 🤔
